Fulton County Museum 2016 Featured Exhibit
The History of Parkhurst Field – America’s Original Field of Dreams
The Fulton County Museum’s “Featured Exhibit” for the 2016 season is “The History of Parkhurst Field – America’s Original Field of Dreams”. The exhibit chronicles the 110-year history of the Gloversville New York Baseball Park which began operation on July 12, 1906 as A., J. & G. Park. It was built by the F., J. & G. Railroad to enter the A., J. & G (Amsterdam-Johnstown-Gloversville) Team in the New York State Professional League. The exhibit tells the story of the park’s professional days and the dozens of future and former Major League Players, as well as the four occasions that Major League Teams stopped to play exhibition games during the regular Major League Baseball Season. Immortal such as Honus Wagner, Cy Young, Chief Bender and the real-life Archibald “Moonlight Doc” Gram (Field of Dreams movie fame) once graced the park. Other areas focus on the many world famous traveling all-star teams that included Negro League Teams, Cuban League Teams, All-Girls Teams, Chinese National Teams and the House of David Teams. It also documents the Industrial League teams that played there in the 1930’s & 40’s up through when the Gloversville Little League Teams took over operation of the field in the 1950’s and still operate there today. You can visit www.parkhurstfield.org for more information about the park and history in the exhibit.
